I am told that the home of Alan Dershowitz...which is in my neighborhood...is also for sale.

Here are the two living rooms.  Do you think people will be wringing their hands in indecision...or perhaps we will attract different buyers?

I am looking at this house and it is truly beautiful. How lucky to live in this area. Today I am sitting here trying to figure out how to get 6 more copies of The Giver, so I can use them to teach. I have only 24 copies that are so old, they are falling apart. My students love this book, so do I. I am trying to put this in perspective, I have no money to get the books, so do people who live in these houses donate money so children can read your books. And if they do, does it ever reach the children who live in lower income schools. I am not trying to be flippant, I am discouraged and want so badly to figure out a way for my school to buy books.

And I can't even imagine wondering about attracting different buyers. I wish I could. I wish I could give an answer. All I can do is tell you what I am thinking about this Sunday, and what different worlds we come from in this world.

Mary Ann-- have you ever used Donors Choose? It's a FANTASTIC website for teachers, where you essentially "shop" for supplies, but then they can be "crowdfunded"--people can donate a lot or a little toward the project until it is fully funded. I got my students a ton of books that way--it was a lifesaver. If you post this as a project there, please be in touch (readingontheftrain@gmail.com, or if links aren't permitted, google Reading on the F Train--that's my blog, and my contact info is there.) I would love to help spread the word and try to get your project funded!
